is an attractive traditional country town on the A71, five miles south of junction 8, situated amidst beautiful, picturesque countryside. It is within easy reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh, making it an ideal location for a national event. We set up road signs at the entrances to the town, pointing to the festival location, in the centre of our town.

The very attractive John Hastie and George Allan Parks, where our Balloon Festival is based, have good visitor facilities; car parking, a pavilion, bandstand, boating pond, children's play areas, tennis courts, putting and bowling greens and a famous miniature railway.

There are excellent sports facilities, including a renowned golf course, rugby pitches, football grounds, swimming pool, fitness centre and, just outside the town, quad bikes at Kypeside, air rifle shooting, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, paintballing and even a Taiko Dojo (traditional Oriental drumming centre).

You will find numerous links to sites about the town on the Links page of this site.
